Choosing a wheelbase for your SimWerk rig

Direct-drive wheelbases from three makers fit the SimWerk Core and the SimWerk Grand: MOZA Racing, Asetek Racing and Thrustmaster. Here's how they compare, from each maker's own specs: the platform you race on, the wheels you want, torque and price.

Start with your platform

  • PC. Every wheelbase in our lineup runs on a Windows PC.
  • PlayStation. The Thrustmaster T598 Servo Base is the one base in our configurator that runs on PS5 and PS4. Pedals, shifter and handbrake then come from Thrustmaster too.
  • Xbox. In our configurator, the R12 V2, R16 Ultra and R25 Ultra run on Xbox with the MOZA ESX wheel.

Then your wheels

Each wheelbase takes its maker’s family of wheels. In our configurator, MOZA wheels go on MOZA bases, Asetek Racing wheels on Asetek Racing bases and Thrustmaster wheels on Thrustmaster bases. If you already know the wheel you want to hold, that decides the maker of your base.

Two exceptions. The Heusinkveld One has no quick release of its own, so on MOZA and Asetek Racing bases we add the adapters it needs. Cube Controls wheels bolt to a formula-style quick release (3 bolts, 70 mm PCD), so on MOZA and Asetek Racing bases we add that brand’s quick-release adapter. Neither is offered on Thrustmaster bases.

How torque is rated

Torque in newton-meters (N·m) is the number every maker leads with, but they don’t measure it the same way:

  • MOZA Racing quotes peak torque for the R9 V3 and R12 V2 and sustained torque for the R16 Ultra, R21 Ultra and R25 Ultra.
  • Asetek Racing quotes max torque for the Initium and peak/holding torque for the Forte and Invicta.
  • Thrustmaster quotes constant torque.

Thrustmaster adds that the T598 can go beyond its constant torque: overshoot up to +100% on force peaks.

How torque is rated. 12 N·m peak is not the same as 10 N·m constant. More torque is headroom, not a setting you must run.

  • MOZA R9 V3: 9 N·m peak
  • MOZA R12 V2: 12 N·m peak
  • MOZA R16 Ultra: 16 N·m sustained
  • MOZA R21 Ultra: 21 N·m sustained
  • MOZA R25 Ultra: 25 N·m sustained, measures its own output torque
  • Asetek Initium Wheelbase (US): 5.5 N·m max, 8 N·m with the Boost Kit
  • Asetek Forte Wheelbase: 18 N·m peak/holding, held for up to 40 s
  • Asetek Invicta Wheelbase: 27 N·m peak/holding, held for up to 40 s
  • Thrustmaster T598 Servo Base: 5 N·m constant, short peaks to 10 N·m
  • Thrustmaster T818 Black Edition: 10 N·m constant
Asetek Racing Forte and Invicta: held for up to 40 s.

A peak figure and a constant figure aren’t the same measurement, so compare torque within one maker’s range rather than across makers.

FAQ

Questions

Do all of these wheelbases fit the SimWerk Core and Grand?

Yes. Every priced wheelbase in this guide fits both, and so do the MOZA, Asetek Racing, Heusinkveld, Thrustmaster and Cube Controls wheels. For the VNM x Cube Controls bases and the Cube Controls SP01 Core pedals (Quoted), we confirm the mounting in your quote.

Can I put a MOZA wheel on an Asetek Racing or Thrustmaster base?

Not in our configurator. MOZA wheels aren't officially supported on other brands' bases, and the same goes for Asetek Racing wheels; Thrustmaster wheels work on Thrustmaster bases only. Choose the base and the wheel from the same maker. The exception is the Heusinkveld One: it has no quick release of its own, so on MOZA and Asetek Racing bases we add the adapters it needs; it isn't offered on Thrustmaster bases.

What do direct-drive wheelbases cost at SimWerk?

From $299 for the MOZA R9 V3 (9 N·m peak) to $1,449 for the Asetek Invicta Wheelbase (27 N·m peak/holding). Makers rate torque differently (peak, sustained, holding or constant), so compare torque within one maker's range.

Which wheelbase works on PlayStation or Xbox?

In our configurator, the Thrustmaster T598 is the base for PlayStation (PS5 and PS4). For Xbox, the MOZA R12 V2, R16 Ultra and R25 Ultra run with the MOZA ESX wheel. Every wheelbase we list runs on a Windows PC.

Which wheelbases are in stock at Pro Shop 01?

MOZA Racing: MOZA wheels, bases and pedals are in stock at Pro Shop 01 in Laguna Hills, so you can drive them before you buy. SimWerk is also an authorized Thrustmaster dealer; Thrustmaster and Asetek Racing wheelbases are by quote.
